"He
who believes that happiness is found in possessing people and
things, is indeed the one who is possessed."
Captain
Hook's Ghost
Don't be
fooled. This possessing/possessed mindset doesn't just apply
to those driving Ferraris and Yachts. It applies to the wife
trying to find
her joy in the guarantee of the marriage or the businessman
finding it in the security of a prize client or the jealous
boyfriend who won't "approve" of his woman's behavior.
Remember
that wild bird that we never could keep alive after spending
a long barefoot summer day staring at a darn shoe box propped
up by a stick with a string? The poor bird couln't live in captivity.
It needed to fly.
Our attempts
to OWN life is born from our fear of not having it, and so we
then set ourselves up to push
it away.
The most
in-your-face example is with love. Mercy
me,
the things we invent in order to Keep love! And the tighter
we grip the harder it fights to get away.
I have yet
to see a U-Haul behind a Hurst, have you? And I have yet to
see possessions bring love & happiness. And yet my belief
that that's where my joy is found keeps me pushing hard to acquire
them and in the process I neglect to notice the love and happiness
that have been at my doorstep the entire time.
The remedy
is to LET GO. Hey, everything we have is just on loan from God
anyway! The illusion
of it is, we think that these possessions will somehow bring
us happiness.
POSSESSION'S
ILLUSION:
Trying to own something we can never own in order to take
from it our happiness that's not even there in the first place!
Yikes!
