Back in Houston we’re learning to do “friendships on Purpose”. It merits my telling you about it in hopes that you can gain from what we’re all hoppin' about.

Jumpin’ right in…WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AS MY FRIEND?

“To be there when I need you”
“To support you”
“To hang with”

These are a few of the more common answers I hear. They all have one thing in common: Passivity. Although I’m certainly grateful for your offer to be there when I need you!

As your friend I want to HELP
BRING OUT YOUR BRILLIANCE!

I choose to be Active in your life as my friend. What does that look like or how does that compare to merely “being there when you need me”?

I encourage you to do your friendships and all relationships more ON PURPOSE. Become a student of WHO THEY ARE. Ask them! “Who are you? What do you value most in life? What do you love? What is it that you want? What’s your resolve for having it?”

A friendship on purpose won’t shame you when you fail. There's no male or female bashing or backbiting. No. Friendship on purpose, in any situation or problem, Actively engages in:
1. Reminding you of what’s important to you;
2. Reminding you of what you want in life;
3. Asking if you're getting what you want;
4. Asking how you're creating what it is that you want right now.

Look at the POWER here. We need Purposeful Friends! The power I feel from my Active friends is quite moving. I feel their presence on my team, helping me stay inline with myself.

Assess your relationships. Begin to add PUNCH to ‘em by incorporating these simple tools. Have a Meaning or Purpose to your friendship other than a movie buddy or a loneliness-buster. Move away from the dead-end REACTIVE weight of should’s and should not’s and live in the PRO-ACTIVE land of potential and power.
