finding joy

A baby grabs the toy. A student punishes himself thru 8 years of college. Two lovers get married. A man tries to control his wife to. A robber robs a bank. ALL FOR THE SAME ultimate PURPOSE. To be happy. However you judge them, they're all trying to experience what they believe will somehow advance them.

I set into motion two killers of love when I believe that my joy is in my marriage or in my fast car or my next vacation or career or friends or my ferret...

  1. I assume a posture of manipulation. I must make SURE that "they" keep the joy coming!
  2. I push them away as they become my resentful pawns.
So if I cannot find my joy in fast cars or in beautiful women or even in a loving partner, where do I find it?When you feel anything...joy, upset, sadness, confusion...where are you experiencing it? INSIDE yourself, right? It has nothing to do with "out there". Yet we think it does so we keep our focus "out there". And we keep not finding it. And so we keep looking. And keep not finding it. And in the process we keep making a mess of life by pushing people and things away as we repeat again and again not finding our joy.Now I'm not gonna be easy on you here. I know you're thinkin', "yep yep, I know! I know my joy isn't out there and I'm not lookin' out there".My friend, most of us who keep looking "out there" for our happiness aren't even aware that we're doing so! So before you're so sure...
